NEW MUELA MILITARY HUNTING FISHING KNIFE - GREEN HANDLE

Brilliant value for money knife

I admittedly didn't buy mine from this site, but I saw it had no reviews and wanted to share my thoughts on this model. I purchased the Muela hunting knife for about 80 dollars in around 2010 from a local brick and mortar store. Suffice to say, it's really withstood the test of time. I mine has cut wood, sausages, steak, rabbit, and wallaby, and it's showed no signs of slowing down. I've even run it through the dishwasher many times and it's fine. The blade is made of I think 440A stainless, but don't quote me on it. The scales are some kind of plastic, but they're very tough. There's no wear, warping or discoloration that I can discern. The rest of the handle is metal, but not sure what kind. It's coated in either paint or some thin layer of plastic which has chipped away at some areas such as the pommel where I've used it as a makeshift hammer. Finally, the construction is held together with brass dowels. To this day the construction is extremely tight, with no wiggles, rattles, or other signs of anything coming loose. Muela knives are made in Europe, and if I recall correctly are covered by Muela's lifetime warranty which is a big plus. No cheap mass production here. It's gone dull before, though I am very rough on the edge at times. I have sharpened it a few times throughout its life. Not really sure how good the steel is at holding an edge as I've not deliberately tested it. I've just sharpened it as necessary. Sorry I don't have more to add there. The saw has always been sharp, but I don't really use that feature very often at all, so I can't comment as to how it holds up over time and use. The sheath... I have to admit I don't like it. I don't know if they still sell it with this or if they've switched to leather, but the sheath is made of hard plastic. It's got a belt loop made of nylon webbing, and a little strip of leather with an embossed brass snap button to secure it. I think it's ugly from an aesthetic point of view, but it has also held up really well, though a sheath doesn't normally face the same abuses as the knife :) Still, for the price I think it's easy to overlook, and besides, you can always buy (or make) a different sheath. Final thoughts: The Muela Military Hunting/Fishing knife is really great for how affordable it is. If you're looking for a knife for hunting or camping, I really think it's worth checking out. It's a tough knife and if you like that aggressive military look it's got that too. I recently learned that they do a version with wooden scales too, so if the green plastic isn't your speed then check that out.
